William M. "Marc" Smith, Jr.

Thomson - Mr. William M. “Marc” Smith, Jr., beloved husband of Mrs. Edith Snider Smith, entered into rest on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the age of 59.

Mr. Smith was the son of the late William Marshall “Bill” Smith, Sr. and Amanda Dozier Smith.  Marc was a graduate of Thomson High School after which he later graduated from Law Enforcement Academy.  He was a man of many skills and used those with various jobs throughout his career.  Marc was a Sheriff’s Deputy with McDuffie and Lincoln County for 14 years; a Meat Cutter for Piggly Wiggly, BI-LO and his father’s deer processing shop until 1988 when his father was killed in a hunting accident; a truck driver for GA Disposal, BFI, and Advance; and was currently employed at Milsco.  Mr. Smith was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and loved the Lord. Marc loved his wife, hunting, fishing, golf, and his pets.   

In addition to his wife, Marc is survived by his beloved stepsons and step-daughter-in-laws Tommy and Deborah Hanson of Covington, Georgia, Clay and Kasey Hanson of Sevierville, TN; step-grandsons Trey Hanson and wife Katelyn and Will Hanson; and step-granddaughter Rebecca Hanson; and lifelong friend Bobby Walsh.

A celebration of life service will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ron Drawdy officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Marc’s honor may be made to Mill Creek Baptist Church Building Fund C/O Gracie Costello P.O. Box 547 Warrenton, Georgia 30828 or an animal shelter of one’s choice.
