W. Moran Obituary

W. Carl Moran passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on April 11 in York, PA. Mr. Moran was a native of Augusta, GA. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Sally. He is also survived by a son, M. Holt Moran (Barbara) of Aiken, SC, a daughter, Elinor Zito (Jim) of York, PA, and daughter-in-law Martha (Warren) of Eugene, OR. He was predeceased by two sons, Warren Carl Moran Jr. and Edward Elliott Moran II. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Edward Elliott Moran III, John Moran, Erin Moran, Travis Moran, Julie Moran, Elizabeth Zito, and Allison Zito, and three great-grandchildren. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and spent 34 years with the DuPont Company. After retiring, he formed Moran & Associates Personnel Consultants. One of the most rewarding things he did in retirement was research and publish the book Mercy at Mercersburg, the previously untold story of the life and death of one of Jeb Stuart’s cavalrymen. Mr. Moran was a lifelong devoted member of the Methodist Church, and felt indebted to the pastors and friends he encountered throughout his journey in the faith. After the September 11th attacks of 2001, he went to New York City to counsel victims as a Stephen Minister. He also served as a Scoutmaster, choir member, and lay leader in the church. He was formerly Chairman of Peninsula United Methodist Homes, and was active with The Salvation Army and the Neighborhood House. There will be a graveside service at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, GA on May 1, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Memorial donations may be made to The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), c/o Asbury United Methodist Church 340 E. Market St. York, PA 17403.
