Sandra “Sandy” Langham Yelton
Sandra “Sandy” Langham Yelton passed over to her heavenly home in the early hours of the morning on December 17, 2024. (She was always an early riser.) She was a loving wife, sister, aunt & “foster” mom, and a TRULY DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVANT!
She served her community in many ways beginning as a volunteer firefighter with the Warren County Panhandle Fire Department in the early 1980’s, growing into fire/rescue as the department evolved, eventually leading her to become an E.M.T and later a Paramedic. She would work her “day” job and then work nights and weekends as a paramedic for many years. It was during this time that she met the love of her life Jimmy Yelton. They eventually were engaged, built their home together, married and led a happy life together, both serving their community in the volunteer fire service as well as helping coach many newcomers to the Warren County Fire and Rescue and helping them prepare for their own certifications as Firefighters, First Responders and E.M.T’s.
Sandy also served as Chief Deputy Coroner in Warren County for 24 years. She found it to be her calling to help others in their most difficult time, and to help families find closure and offer prayer and support as much as possible. She was a member of Georgia Coroners Association.
She also served on the Warren County Board of Education for many years as a board member and Co-Chairman of the board. As a 1980 graduate of Warren County Schools, she understood the value and necessity for the opportunity for our children of the county to have the availability of well-rounded education. In the words of condolence received from the Executive Director of the Georgia School Board Association, “She was a true advocate for young people and believed strongly in our responsibility to provide a quality education for them.”
Sandy served in all these roles while also working full-time for Hoover Treated Wood Products for over 30 years. She enjoyed and excelled at her job, and truly cared for all those at Hoover. When you work somewhere for so long many there become like family to you. Sandy never did any of these things for her own glory, she was simply generous with a servant’s heart. She persevered through many health challenges, especially in these past several years and would encourage others to persevere and bless others.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Talmadge and Ruth Langham and her in-laws, Floyd and Sarah Yelton. She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years James G.” Jimmy” Yelton; daughter, English Coit; sister, Kay Langham; brother, Van Langham and wife Julie; nephew Mitch Langham and wife Amber and their son Riley Rogers; dear friends, Betsy Chalker, Joy Morris, Barry and Liz Holden. Also, her aunts, Judy Scott, Esther Higginbottom; uncle, Joe Jordan and many precious cousins. While we will all miss her greatly, we are comforted knowing her faith was in Jesus and we will see her again in Heaven. We pray every family has this assurance as well.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, December 20, 2024, at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church in Warren County Panhandle with Rev. Jessica Blackwood officiating. Interment will follow in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
