Rev. Charles Reese Obituary

McDuffie County, Thomson - Mr. Charles Edward Reese, age 67, beloved husband of 42 years to Mrs. Wanda Howard Reese, entered into rest on Saturday, July 6th, 2024, in Piedmont Augusta.

Mr. Reese was the son of Mrs. Elvie Johnson Reese and the late Mr. Charles Willis Reese.  Charles worked for W.S. Badcock and later retired from Badcock and More with 30 plus years of service as Furniture Repair supervisor. Following his retirement, he worked for Richard and Mary Dozier doing small odd and end jobs and driving Mr. Richard around. Charles was the founding Pastor of Second Chance Independent Church in 2005. He spent many hours and days building the church from the ground up, following the vision the God gave him for that little house on the corner.  Charles was blessed with the gift of prayer.  One of his joys in the ministry was going and praying for people.  In his spare time as a hobby, he took up taxidermy where he trained under a couple of the best taxidermists in the area and later opened and owned Swampy Bottom Taxidermy. He is a lifetime member of the National Taxidermy Association and Georgia Taxidermy Association.   Charles loved the Lord, his church family, his family and friends, fishing with his buddies, hunting, and his dogs and chickens. In addition, he was a member of Big Buck Hunting Club.  Outside of his family, friends and hunting buddies lately his best buddy was Peanut, his miniature Schnauzer, they were inseparable, and done everything around the house and yard together.

In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by his daughter, Laura Tabor and husband Casey of Washington, Georgia; son Charles Randall Reese of Warrenton; two grandsons, Tripp and Tyler Tabor both of Washington; one granddaughter Faith Reese of Thomson; his mother, Elvie Johnson Reese of Warrenton; two brothers, Danny Reese and wife Stephanie of Warrenton and Denny Reese and wife Janice of Gibson; a God brother, David Carroll; two uncles, Bobby Reese and wife Belinda of Columbus, Georgia and Larry Reese and wife Belva of Evans, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins;  his other son, Peanut (his miniature Schnauzer). In addition to his father, Mr. Reese was preceded in death by a nephew, D. J. Reese.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday, July 11th at Second Chance Independent Church with Mr. David Carroll officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  In honor of Charles, the family ask that anyone that would like to wear overalls please do.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday night at The Lowe Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be J.J. Howard, Terry Howard, Robbie Howard, Jake Shiry, Tripp Tabor, Tyler Tabor, Casey Tabor and Russell Bohler.
