SFC P. Michael “Mike” Carnell
SFC P. Michael “Mike” Carnell, age 70, beloved husband of 45 years to Mrs. Shirley Howard Carnell of Thomson, entered into rest on Friday, May 30, 2025, at his residence.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, June 4th, 2025, at Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 6252 Mill Creek Church Road, Mitchell, with Military Chaplain officiating.
A native of Charleston, West Virginia, and the son of the late William McKinley Carnell and Wilma Gay Collins Carnell. Mike was a 1973 Graduate of Hoover High School. After Graduation Mike enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. and served four years as an infantryman after which he changed branches of service to the United States Army and served sixteen plus years in Signal Corps retiring as a Sergeant First Class. Shortly after retiring from the Army, he started working for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in the Wildlife Resources Fisheries Division at the McDuffie Public Fishing area where he later would retire as a Tech II with over twelve years of service. Mr. Carnell enjoyed his time at the state ponds as he could be in the great outdoors and maintain a place for families to come and enjoy the outdoors and fish. It was during this time he went back to school and obtained his associate’s degree in criminal justice from Augusta Technical College. Mike loved his family, friends, work family, and his grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Howard Carnell of Thomson: daughter, Jeanie Marie Carnell of Thomson; son Jake Carnell and wife Victoria of Thomson; Grandchildren, Brianna Marie Rushton and husband Ryan of Thomson, Isabella Marie Carnell, Aaliyah Marie Ramsey, Emily Marie Carnell, Abigail Veronica Carnell and Sean Michael Carnell; one brother, Joe Carnell of Virginia; his puppy Athena Marie Carnell; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Mary Turner and Karen Burdette and a brother, Wayne Collins.
Friends may call at the residence or visit Lowe Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday evening June 3rd, 2025.
