Warrenton, GA - Mr. Michael Allen Holcomb, age 71, died Friday, April 15, 2016 at University Hospital – Augusta of heart failure. He called Warrenton home for close to 20 years.

Mr. Holcomb was born in Morgan County, Ohio, on Nov. 8, 1944. He attended Ames-Bern High School and joined the United Sates Marine Corps in 1962. He served in Vietnam and later at Camp LeJeune, NC. After two tours of duty in Vietnam, he came out a sergeant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis William Holcomb and Mildred Lorraine Holcomb, his brother, Kenneth and Kenneth’s wife Grace; and a baby sister, Joanne.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Diana Ausbury Mays; a biological daughter and son, Lara Mays- Davis and Matthew Mays; a stepson, Danny Mays; a sister and brother, Carol Holcomb-Riley and Richard Holcomb; a granddaughter, Abby Davis and a step-granddaughter, Samantha Mays; and a close friend, Leona Nona Felix. In addition, the family would like to express their love and appreciation for the H.M. Smith Family for helping take care of Mike and treating him like family.

He was well loved in Warrenton and had many friends including Casey, Heather, Karley, and Alan Griffith as well as the many friends around the morning coffee table at Miss Jane’s Restaurant in Warrenton.

For the past 18 years, he worked for the Smith Corporation in Warrenton planting trees and taking care of the land. Friends and co-workers say he was a hard worker who made them laugh. He loved nature, planting trees, fishing, reading, prospecting and target practice on the hunting lands.

A private celebration of life will be held to honor Michael, with his closest family and friends present.
