Margaret (Ashley) Brooks

Mrs. Margaret Ashley Brooks, age 80, beloved wife of 60 years to Mr. John Alvin Brooks of Thomson, entered into rest on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Piedmont Hospital – Augusta.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Washington Heights Baptist Church, 1495 Washington Road, Thomson, with the Revs. Jonathan Rosier, Brad Ellington, and Reginald Blakewood officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery.

A native and lifelong resident of Thomson, Mrs. Brooks was the daughter of the late Anna Mae Coker Ashley and Henry Grady Ashley, Sr. She was a 1963 graduate of Thomson High School and dedicated 33 years of service to McDuffie County Hospital before retiring. Margaret was a faithful servant and devoted member of Washington Heights Baptist Church, where she lovingly served for 47 years as church treasurer, Sunday School Secretary, Training Union Secretary, and VBS Director.

She is survived by her husband, John Alvin Brooks, and their children: Tracy (Mike) Madden, Phyllis (Robert) Rosier, Lisa (Madison) Bolton, all of Thomson, GA, and Jason (Emily) Brooks of Appling. Her cherished grandchildren include Presley Madden, Davis Madden, Jonathan (Christan) Rosier, Matthew Rosier, London Brooks, Alvin Brooks, Oliver Brooks, and Rebekah (Harli) Stephens; great-grandchildren Waylon Rosier and Stetson Rosier, expected in July 2025. Mrs. Brooks is also survived by her sister, Diane Crunkelton, of Gibson, GA; two brothers, Terry (Marie) Ashley of Thomson, GA, and Henry Grady (Barbara) Ashley, Jr. of Sparta, GA; and her brother-in-law, Lester Hadden, of Warrenton, GA.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa Brooks; sister Betty Jo Wood Hadden; and brothers Jimmy Ashley and Ray Ashley.

Pallbearers will be Dewayne Wood, John Wood, Spencer Wood, Clay Crunkelton, Lane Crunkelton, and Dale Ashley.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation for the loving care provided to Mrs. Brooks by Sue Latimer, Dr. Jamie Lemley and his staff as well home health providers Lacey Hughes, Morgan Workman, Ayme Cranford, and Madison Owens.
