Lawana Chalker Coxwell

Warrenton, Georgia- Mrs. Lawana Chalker Coxwell, age 97, entered into rest on Wednesday September 22, 2021 at Washington County ECF, Sandersville. 

Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 4 pm in Johnson Church Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Harwell officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service.

Mrs. Coxwell was born on June 20, 1924, in Glascock County, Ga.  She was the daughter of Matthew F. Chalker and Marietta Norris Chalker.  She was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church until she married and joined Johnson Methodist Church in Warren County where during her life she taught and served faithfully.  She began work at the Post Office in Gibson during WWII.  Upon Marrying she worked in garment manufacturing at Garland Knitting/HealthTex.  After retiring she worked part-time at Chardan Ltd. In Thomson, Ga.

Mrs. Coxwell enjoyed cooking and sewing, but her greatest enjoyment was her family.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother (8) and great grandmother (15).

She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Lewie B. Coxwell and survived by her three children L. Dan Coxwell (Judy) Washington, Ga., Dennis Coxwell (Fran) Warrenton, Ga., and Betty Coxwell Sandersville, Ga.

Special appreciation to Magnolia Baptist Church for their continued ministry in her later years and to her Warren County neighbors and friends.
