WARRENTON, GA - Mr. Joseph Carlton “Joe” Smallwood age 82, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Betty Smallwood died Monday December 5, 2016 at University Hospital – McDuffie.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Long Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Wasson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Smallwood will lie in state one hour prior to funeral services at the church.

Mr. Smallwood a native and lifelong resident of Warren County was the son of the late Thomas Carlton and Sara Frances Bell Smallwood. A U.S. Navy Veteran, Mr. Joe served during the Korean War aboard the USS Iowa (BB-61). In addition, he retired from the State of Georgia Department of Natural Resources with over 34 years of service. Mr. Smallwood was a member of Long Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa (Mark) Chalker, and Amy Jo (Kevin) McGill, one son, Russell (Geneva) Smallwood; one sister, Brenda Smallwood McDonald; three grandchildren, Shae Smallwood, Zakk Smallwood, and Kyle McGill; one great grandson, Bentley Smallwood. Mr. Smallwood was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Chalker.

Pallbearers will be Mike McDonald, Doug Ellis, Larry Johnson, James Johnson, Jack Smallwood, Jr. and Sammy Toulson.

Friends may call at the residence.

Visitation will held Tuesday December 6, 2016 from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Lowe Funeral Home.
