Athens, GA - Mr. James Carlton Thrift, Sr. age 92, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Ruth Mae Coxwell Thrift entered into rest Tuesday June 18, 2019 at the GA War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 22, 2019 at the Johnson Cemetery, Warren County, GA with the Rev. Mike Walston officiating.
Mr. Thrift a native of Screven County, GA was the son of the late Essie Mae Griswell Thrift and James Arthur Thrift, Sr. A 1943 graduate of Warren County High School, Mr. Thrift went on to serve his country in the U. S. Navy during WW II. Afterwards, he had a successful career as a car salesman retiring from Barrett Dodge. In addition, Mr. Thrift was a faithful member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Athens. Recently, he was a member of the Beech Haven Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Gail (Mike) Walston, of Ellijay, GA and Carla (Jeff) Tanner of Greensboro, GA; two sons, Jimmy (Lisa) Thrift of Colbert, GA and John Thrift of Bogart, GA. 8 Grandchildren, 13 great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandson.
The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.
