Mrs. Helen Harper Newsome
Warrenton, Georgia – Mrs. Helen Harper Newsome, age 84, widow of the late Mr. Lewis Jackson Newsome, entered into rest on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at At‑Home Senior Living Center. She was the daughter of the late Roy Lee Harper and Evie Brewer Harper.
A lifelong resident of Warren County, Helen graduated from Warren County High School in 1959 and continued her education at Augusta Business College. She enjoyed a long and dedicated career as a Human Resource Manager with Garland Textile Mill and HealthTex, where she was respected for her professionalism, fairness, and steady leadership.
Helen was a faithful member of Norwood Community Church and an active participant in the adult Sunday School class. Her greatest joy, however, was found in her family. She was a devoted wife and mother, and she cherished her role as a grandmother, taking pride in each generation that followed her.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Newsome Walker and husband Mark of Danburg; two sons, Michael Newsome of Warrenton and Charles Newsome and wife Dayra of Appling; eight grandchildren, Olivia Winn and husband Jordan, Jackson Lyons and wife Megan, Ford Walker and wife Ashlee, Wilkes Walker, Charles Newsome and wife Catherine, Chris Newsome, Sue Ellen Alzheimer and husband Peter, and Joanna Moon and husband Michael; and eight great‑grandchildren, Emmett Winn, Helen Winn, Thomas Winn, Allister Hartman, Walon Moon, Harper Moon, Cannon Kennedy, and Cooper Kennedy. She is also survived by two sisters‑in‑law, Hildred Harper and Sybil Harper.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her five brothers, Charles Harper, Billy Harper, James Harper, Carl Harper, and David Harper.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Norwood Community Church with Rev. Jessica Blackwood officiating. Burial will follow in Scruggs Cemetery, Norwood, Georgia. Mrs. Newsome will lie in state one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jordan Winn, Jackson Lyons, Ford Walker, Wilkes Walker, Charles M. Newsome, and Mark Lyons.
