Evelyn (Frazier) Johnson

SPARTA, GA-Mrs. Evelyn Frazier Johnson, age 99, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018, in

Sandersville, GA. She was born on September 10, 1918, in Hancock County, Georgia, but grew

up in the Warthen community in Washington County and graduated as salutatorian of the Class

of 1937 of Sandersville High School. In 1939 she married Martin Gary Johnson, Jr. and lived in

Augusta, GA, Washington D.C., and Berwyn, MD. before moving back to Hancock County, GA in 1947.

She was a member of Jewell Baptist Church, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for

many years.

On the farm she loved to garden and care for her flowers, especially her roses, to walk in

the woods and pastures, and to share visits with friends and family, especially her grandchildren

and great-grandchildren. A dog lover, she always chose the ugliest dog in the litter and loved it

as if it were a pedigreed champion. She had a weakness for sweets, keeping a secret stash of

chocolates and cookies plus an unending supply of peppermints. The eldest daughter of the late William Talmage Frazier and Evie Brown Frazier, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Martin Gary Johnson Jr. in 2005, her sister and her husband Laura F. and Bill Bell of Pittsburgh, PA.; her sister and her husband, Ruth F. and Charlie Franklin of Sandersville.

She is survived by daughter and her husband, Tina and Dan Motley of Marietta, GA.; son

and his wife, Bill and Judy Johnson of Louisville, KY.; son and his wife Jeff and Beverly Johnson

of Brooklet, GA

Grandchildren are David and Karen Motley of Charlotte, NC; James and Nicole Motley

of Canton, GA; Jennifer J. and Bob Armstrong of Louisville, KY; Chad Johnson of Chicago, IL;

Brett and Liz Johnson of Owings Mills, MD; and Maggie Johnson of Pooler, GA.

Great-grandchildren include Brittany, Kaitlyn and Bryce Motley of Charlotte; Grant

and Parker Motley of Canton; Jake Armstrong of Louisville; Andy and Chelsea Johnson of

Owings Mills.

Also surviving are her four nephews and their families, Robert Lee Bell of East Lyme,

CT; David Bell of Pittsburgh, PA; Mike Franklin and Tim Franklin of Sandersville.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Jewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 P. M. till the hour of service in the church sanctuary.
