Mr. Troy Whitten Bennett

Ms. Cheryl Lynn Newsome and Mr. Troy Whitten Bennett both age 72 entered into rest Monday August 3, 2020.

Following the wishes of Cheryl and Troy, a gathering of family and friends with a covered dish meal will take place at 5:00 P.M. Sunday, August 9, 2020 at the residence of Wendy Norris Purvis 5089 Mitchell Road Warrenton, GA.

Ms. Newsome, a lifelong resident of Warren County, GA was a retired nurse with the Gibson Health & Rehabilitation Center with 45 years of service and a member of the Jewell Baptist Church.

Mr. Bennett, a native of Cobb County, GA had been a resident of Hancock County for the last 32 years where he enjoyed farming, hunting, and fishing.  In addition, he was a retired engineer/firefighter with the Cobb County Fire Department with 35 years of service. Troy was a U. S. Army veteran serving in the 82nd airborne during the Vietnam war.  He was a member of the Sparta V.F.W.

Cheryl’s survivors include a daughter, Wendy Norris Purvis (Jerry Wood) of Warrenton; a son, Ken Norris of Mitchell; two sisters, Sandra Azimi (Mehdi) and Cathe Basurto (Faustino); three brothers, Les Newsome (Linda), Phil Newsome, and Tony Newsome (Luz); four grandchildren, Jordan Purvis, Josie Purvis, Gracey Norris, and Bryer Norris; one great granddaughter, Janna Rosier.

Troy’s survivors include a son, Derrick Whitten Bennett (Dawn) of White Plains; a brother, Tim Bennett; a sister, Lillian Bennett Harris; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers and if so desired, the family has requested memorials be made to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN  38105.
