WARRENTON, GA – Mr. Charles Lee Harper, age 87, beloved husband of 63 years to Mrs. Mary Bessie Davis Harper of Gibson Highway, died Monday morning May 16, 2016 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the Magnolia Baptist Church Glascock County, GA with the Dr. Randall Whitaker and Rev. Tommy Harwell and Dr. James Canada, II officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Harper will lie in state one hour prior to funeral services at the church.

Mr. Harper, a native of Houston County, GA was a lifelong resident of Warren County and the son of the late Evie Brewer Harper and Roy Lee Harper. A U. S. Navy Veteran, Mr. Harper retired from Civil Service at Fort Gordon after 34 years and continued to raise Beef Cattle. In addition, Mr. Harper served on the Warren County Board of Commissioners as Chairman, member of Warren County Farm Bureau serving as President for 17 years, and a board member of ASC, RC&D, Georgia Cattlemen’s Association, Tri County Health and served as Judge of Warren County Small Claims Court. An active member of Franklin Masonic Lodge #11 and Magnolia Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Church Clerk, and Treasurer for many years.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, Mary Bessie Davis Harper, survivors include a sister, Helen Harper (Lewis) Newsome of Warrenton, his beloved cat Prissy and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Harper, James Harper, Carl Harper, and David Harper.

Pallbearers will be Charles Newsome, Billy Harper, Jr., David McCord, Mark Phillips, Tim Landrum, and Joe Shurley.

Honorary Pallbearers will be DeWayne Wood, Mike Turner, Larry Morris, Charles Hall, Jim Wooten, Gene Fisher, and Wayne Cannon.

The family would like to say THANK YOU to his caregivers, Alice Moss, Annie Hill, Arlean Mills, Bertha Grissom, Linda Ruff, Michelle Hill, Moronica Hudson, Sabrina Walker, Jackie Johnson, Mary Lewis and Mary Jenkins as well as CSRA Home Health for their dedicated and loyal services during his extended illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Magnolia Baptist Church C/O Mr. Louis Swint 3316 Magnolia Church Road Gibson, GA 30810.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8 :00 P.M. at Lowe Funeral Home.
