WARRENTON, GA – Mrs. Calene Rahn Wren, age 90, of 287 S. Whitehead Street entered into rest Friday morning September 19, 2014 at her residence. She was the devoted wife of 58 years of the late Albert H. Wren who passed away May 9, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Warrenton First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jerry Wolfe and David Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnson Cemetery. Mrs. Wren will lie in state one hour prior to funeral services at the church.
A native of Warren County, Mrs. Wren was an honor graduate of the class of 1941, Warrenton High School. She attended Georgia State College for Women, Milledgeville. She lived in Augusta for six years and was employed by the Southern Railway during that time. She moved to Glascock County in 1949 and worked and retired from civil service Fort Gordon, as senior Budget Analyst, Resource Management office with 31 years of service.
Mrs. Wren loved her church and was a faithful member of the Warrenton First United Methodist Church for 78 years serving on the Administrative Council for 34 years. Her church played a big influence in her life. She was a member and past President of the United Methodist Women, member and past President of the Mamie Evans Sunday School Class and served as mission’s chairman of over 25 years.
She was a member and past President of the Bastonville Home Demonstration Club, member and past Regent Burkhalter Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and held several State NSDAR Chairmanships. In addition, she was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees the Warren County Historical Society and Warren County Farm Bureau.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all whose lives she touched during the 90 precious years that God granted her on this earth.
Born September 17, 1924 in Warren County she was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Calvin J. Rahn, grandmother, Mrs. Callie Gunn Pool, sisters, Margery Rahn Langford and Helen Rahn Owens, brothers, Calvin Joseph and Harry Pool Rahn.
Survivors include her son, Donald R. Wren and wife Rhonda, Gibson, GA, five grandchildren, Johna Wilkes, Columbia, SC, Tara Wilkes Smith, Macon, GA, Jay Wilkes, Athens, GA, Tara Braswell Searcy, Gibson, GA, Travis Braswell, Hawaii; five great grandchildren, Taylor Wren Smith, Tanner Elizabeth Smith, Payton Searcy, Paisley Searcy, Brody Braswell, and Gavin Braswell; two brothers, Johnnie (Liz) Rahn, Griffin, GA and George (Linda) Rahn, Savannah, GA. She was especially close to her many nieces & nephews.
Pallbearers will be Larry Langford, Paul Searcy, Joey Kaney, Charles Lankster, Juddy Johnson, and Ronnie Easler.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Warrenton First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 303 E. Main Street Warrenton, GA 30828.
The family would like to sincerely thank her caregiver, Mrs. Edith Blount, for her personal care, love and support since 2003. Words cannot express our appreciation as Calene was truly blessed by Edith’s wonderful care “Thank you Jesus”.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Saturday evening at Lowe Funeral Home.
