Mrs. Betty Jean Ballard
Blythe, Georgia – Mrs. Betty Jean Ballard, age 82, widow of Mr. Walter Furman “Doug” Ballard, entered into rest on Monday, June 15, 2026, at her home. She was the daughter of the late James Lucas and Earlene Ruth Rainey Lucas.
Born in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Betty later made Blythe her home for many years. She retired from University Hospital, where she worked faithfully as a housekeeper. A woman of Baptist faith, she lived her life with a joyful spirit and a genuine kindness that made her a friend to all who knew her. Betty enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and cherished the people around her.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Hayes and husband Wayne of Blythe; her son, Jeffery Ballard and wife Angie of Hephzibah; twelve grandchildren; eight great‑grandchildren; her brother, Jerry Lucas and wife Mary of Florida; and her sister, Ethel Durgan and husband Roy of Michigan; life-long friends, Levern and Karen Hopson of Michigan.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 20th, at Faith Baptist Church, 3355 Highway 88, Blythe, Georgia 30805, with Rev. Brian O’Neal officiating.
