Mrs. Susan McManus Newsome, age 67, entered into rest peacefully on February 24, 2021 at her home after a prolonged illness. Susan was a devoted wife to her husband of 47 years, James Newsome, and loving mother to their three daughters Cail Newsome (Matt) Hammons, Leigh Newsome (Chris) Phillips, and Anna Newsome (Bill) Holcomb. Susan, a native of Cobb County, GA, was the daughter of the late Sue Wall McManus and Wiley McManus, the youngest of their four children. A Warrenton resident since 1973, Susan was retired from Warren County School System and a member of the First Baptist Church of Warrenton. Susan served the students of Warren County in various positions, but her most beloved memories were teaching second graders at M.E. Freeman Elementary School as a paraprofessional. Susan loved traveling with James, and the two gained many cherished friends adventuring around the Georgia-South Carolina coast on their sailboat, but their greatest shared adventure was becoming grandparents to Lee Hammons and Maggie Sue Phillips. In addition to her husband, daughters, and grandchildren, survivors include her sister Pat (John) Cardwell of Carrollton, TX; a brother, Wiley (Carol) McManus of Manchaca, TX; and a sister-in- law, Amy McManus. Susan is preceded in death by her parents and beloved brother, Hollie E. McManus. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the Johnson Church Cemetery with Dr. Brandon Furr officiating. The family will observe all necessary safety precautions with regard to the public health crisis. Social distancing and the wearing of face masks are required throughout the services.
