Glascock County, Georgia – Mr. Russell Smallwood, age 65, entered into rest on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Warrenton Woods.

Born in Wilkes County on September 5, 1960, to the late Joseph Carlton Smallwood and Betty Roberson Smallwood, Russell grew up with deep Georgia roots and a lifelong love for the place he called home. He spent all his years in Warren and Glascock Counties, becoming a familiar face, a trusted friend, and a man whose stories were woven into the rhythm of the community.

Russell began his working life as a foreman with Pullman Lumber Company, where he earned a reputation for dependability, grit, and a steady hand. Later, he found his true calling on the open road. Truck driving wasn't just a job to him, it was freedom, purpose, and pride. He drove a bright yellow rig he affectionately named "Tweety Bird," and together they logged countless miles across the countryside. Folks often said that if you saw Tweety Bird rolling down the highway, you knew the best trucker around was behind the wheel. Russell carried that pride with him everywhere he went, and he wore the title "truck driver" like a badge of honor.

Life on the road suited him. He loved the quiet stretches of highway, the small towns, the familiar truck stops, and the simple pleasures he picked up along the way, especially the pickled bologna he always made sure to grab when passing through Tennessee. When he wasn't driving, Russell enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his son, Zakk Tyler Smallwood and wife Madalyn of Warrenton; his daughter, Hillary Shae Bridges and husband Ed of Sandersville; three beloved grandchildren; and two sisters, Teresa Chalker and husband Mark of Warrenton, and Amy Jo McGill and husband Kevin of Tennille.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, India Geneva Smallwood, whom he loved deeply.

A celebration of Russell's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 15, 2026, in the Chapel of Lowe Funeral Home with Mr. Zakk Smallwood officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
