Norwood, Georgia – Mrs. Frances Louise Murphey, age 79, widow of Mr. Clyde Preston “Pete” Murphey, entered into rest on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at home with her family.

A private funeral service will be held.

Born on January 24, 1947, in Harlan Kentucky, to the late Mr. Otto Duff and Edna Margaret Mority Duff. She was a homemaker and a Christian by faith.

She is survived by her three sons, Pete Murphey and wife Anita, Brent Murphey and wife Penney, both of Norwood, and Timothy Murphey and wife Amanda of Gibson; daughter, Tammy Murphey Smith of Greenwell Springs, LA; brother, Bill Duff and wife Sue of Thomson; seven grandchildren, Katey Folk and husband Charlie of Harlem, Georgia, Peyton Thompson and husband Christopher of Eatonton, Dakota Murphey and wife Lizzie of Evans, Morgan Smith of Greenwell Springs, LA, Jonah Murphey of Brooklyn, N.Y., Patrick Smith and wife Bethany of Denham Springs, LA, and Camden Murphey of Union Point; seven great grandchildren, Cameron, Sawyer, Madison, Tatum, Chandler, Lenya and Ella.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 10 siblings and husband.

Frances was lovingly known by most simply as Granny. She was a woman whose love reached across generations. She was cherished by people from every era of her life and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, family, faith, and unconditional love.

Granny loved people, animals, shopping, watching tv, her Braves, shoes, purses and most of all spoiling children. It never mattered whose child you were, she loved you like you were her own. She had a special gift for making everyone feel welcomed, cared for, and loved.

Granny often spoke fondly of her time spent in the mountains of Kentucky and the memories she made there, especially those shared with her best friend, Marie. Those stories and memories remained close to her heart and became a treasured part of the life she shared with her family.

Together with her husband, Pete, Granny raised her children and poured her heart into her family. And when those children grew up and had children of their own, Granny fully embraced her most beloved role of all. She became the Granny everyone knew and loved. She was a constant source of comfort, laughter, help, and unconditional love.

Granny was easygoing, generous, and always willing to help with whatever her family needed. She never needed recognition for what she did. Caring for others simply came naturally to her.

Above all else, Granny loved like Jesus. Her faith was not something she spoke about; it was something she lived. She showed her love through her actions, her generosity, her patience, and the way she continually put the needs of others before her own. She had a way of making people feel that they mattered, that they belonged, and that they were never alone.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Vera Gunn for her exceptional caregiving to Mrs. Frances. Granny spent many days with Ms. Vera. Vera cared for Granny like family. Granny loved eating, napping, and chatting with Vera. Vera was the last friend Granny made in this life and it was a friendship she treasured.

Granny’s greatest legacy is not found in possessions or accomplishments, but in the countless lives she touched. Her love lives on in her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family, friends, and in every person who was fortunate enough to call her Granny.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew her.
