Mr. Sterling J. (Billy) Smith

Thomson, GA - Mr. Sterling J. (Billy) Smith, age 77 of Thomson, entered into rest Wednesday, October 30, 2024, in Gibson Health and Rehabilitation.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Westview Cemetery in Thomson.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the cemetery.

Mr. Smith, a native of McDuffie County who lived most of his life in Thomson, was the son of the late Mr. Joseph Sterling Smith and Mrs. Mozelle Owens Smith.  Mr. Smith retired from St. Moritz Building Services. Even after retirement he always felt the need to stay busy so he went to work with Mr. David Russell at his Cricket Farm.  When Billy was not working you could find him fishing, cheering on his beloved Thomson High School Bulldog Football Team and watching the Georgia Bulldogs.  He loved his family, friends, and especially his grandson Tyler.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Milton Hobbs and Monroe Smith and one sister, Carolyn Smith.  Survivors include his daughter, Tammy Smith Shelton and husband Jeff of Thomson; grandson, Tyler Shelton of Thomson; three sisters, Laverne Nelson and husband Dave of McCormick, S.C., Oda Mae Hernandez of Gibson, and Jean Warner and husband Rob of N. Augusta, S.C.
