Richie Duckworth Obituary

Ms. Richie Dean Duckworth, age 81, died of natural cause on January 13, 2018.

She was born April 8, 1936 to William Richard “Dick” Duckworth and Mariana Williamson Duckworth of Norwood.  She was a star basketball player at Warrenton High School where she graduated in 1954 and received a degree in Physical Education from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville in 1958. Richie lived in the Atlanta area during her 35 year career as a science and PE teacher in Cobb County Schools.  After her retirement, she returned to live in her childhood home in Norwood.

Ms. Duckworth was preceded in death by her sister Peggy Duckworth (Eric) Tiller of Dunwoody, GA, and her parents, W R (Dick) and Mariana Duckworth.  She is survived by her sister Sue (Garry) Simons and their daughter Lisa of Norwood, her brother Gregg (Bonnie) Duckworth of Acworth, GA, four nephews and five great nieces and nephews.

Richie will be cremated and her ashes will be scattered on the farm where she was raised.  A memorial marker will be placed in Dennis Cemetery on Ridge Road.  A Celebration of Life party in her honor was held in mid-December at the assisted living home where she lived in Canton, Ga.  It was her wish not to have a memorial or funeral service.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society or the Human Rights Campaign.
