Mrs. Jean Chapman Ricketson

Jean Chapman Ricketson, 84, of Greenwood, SC passed away February 16th, 2013. She was born Mary Jeanette Ledford in Sharon, GA on August 1st, 1928 to the late James C. Ledford and Claudine Stanford Ledford. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jimmie Ledford Williams and a brother, George C. Ledford.
Although an excellent student, circumstances required that she postpone her college education. In 1969, at the age of 40, she graduated with honors from Augusta College and went on to earn two masters degrees from the University of Georgia. She truly enjoyed teaching and taught for more than twenty years in public schools and colleges.
Jean lived her first fifty years in the small Georgia towns of Sharon, Crawfordville, Barnett and Warrenton and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Warrenton.
She was the wife of Jack D. Chapman, Sr. and after his death, married the late Dr. William F. Ricketson and moved to Greenwood, SC. There she joined the First Baptist Church and lived until her passing.
Jean is survived by her son, Jack D. Chapman, Jr., his wife Gale S. Chapman and granddaughters Kelly Jill Chapman and Jennifer Emily Chapman along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church of Warrenton with the Rev. Jim Hanna officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnett Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Williams, Tommy Chapman, Steve Ledford, Taylor Estes, Michael Gladson, and Jon Gladson.
The family will receive friends in the First United Methodist Churchof Warrenton Sanctuary beginning at 1:00 P.M.
